Prof. David Dodoo-Arhin, a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Director of the Institute of Applied Science and Technology at the University of Ghana, has been leading a groundbreaking project called "Valorisation of Waste Plastics for Fuel Production (VALOPLASTIQUES)". This project aims to tackle the plastic waste problem by recycling plastic waste into low-cost fuels using locally developed pyrolysis technology. The initiative is supported by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs through the Embassy of France in Ghana.
Currently, the project is being implemented at the Osu Alata Landing beach area in the Korle-Klottey Municipality, with plans to expand to other coastal communities. Prof. Dodoo-Arhin's vision is to create a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution to manage both land and marine plastic waste.
