In celebration of International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), the Women in Engineering (WiNE) chapter at the University of Ghana organized a powerful Career and Mentorship Program on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the School of Engineering Sciences Conference Room. Themed “Her Blueprint: Building Bold Careers in STEM,” the event drew students, faculty, and industry professionals together for an afternoon of engagement, empowerment, and meaningful dialogue.

The program opened with a warm welcome and prayer, led by the WiNE President. A series of fun activities, including trivia games, set an energetic and friendly tone for the event. One standout moment saw Teaching Assistant Miriam receive a complimentary WiNE T-shirt as the most active participant. Students were also invited to voice their expectations for the session, which centered on building self-confidence, discovering career paths, and accessing mentorship opportunities.

The keynote address was delivered by Ing. Mrs. Alberta Amankwaa, who inspired the audience with a call for women to boldly shape their careers and embrace the strength and value they bring to the engineering field. She highlighted the importance of resilience and vision in navigating professional growth.

Following the keynote, Ing. Mrs. Benedicta Opoku Mensah presented a session titled “Designing Your Career Path: Strategy, Resilience, and Work–Life Integration.” She offered practical guidance on intentional career planning, managing workplace pressures, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance, particularly in STEM environments.

The final speaker, Ing. Mrs. Miriam Amponsah, addressed “Navigating Identity and Imposter Syndrome.” Her deeply personal and honest reflections on self-doubt, authenticity, and professional growth resonated strongly with attendees, prompting introspection and encouragement among students.

A notable highlight was the official launch of the WiNE Mentorship Program, followed by an interactive breakout session. In these small-group discussions, students engaged directly with mentors, asking thought-provoking questions on topics such as rejection, internships, thriving in male-dominated fields, integrating faith with career goals, and overcoming burnout.

In a special segment, the Dean and invited guests shared career advice that had guided them throughout their professional journeys. Their insights underscored the importance of resilience, open-mindedness, and proactive learning.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks and a heartfelt expression of gratitude. A citation was presented to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) WiNE, recognizing their invaluable support through the provision of mentors and speakers.

The INWED 2025 celebration at the University of Ghana was not only memorable but also deeply impactful. It offered a safe, vibrant space for connection, learning, and empowerment. Students left feeling motivated, supported, and more confident in their aspirations as future engineers.
